WhatsApp now offers conversations through web. The application identifies each user through their mobile number. Therefore to use WhatsApp web, one has to scan a QR codedisplayed on your desktop screen.
Steps to Use WhatsApp on Web
1. Update WhatsApp
Update your WhatsApp mobile application to the latest version(Version 2.11.498).
2. WhatsApp Web menu
Latest version of WhatsApp contains a new item under menu. Its label is “WhatsApp Web”.

Click the menu item, to open a QR scanner.
3. Connection With Desktop
Open https://web.whatsapp.com/ in your desktop. You can find a QR code on the page. Scan it using your mobile. As soon as the scanning is done, the desktop refresh itself to show your WhatsApp messages.

Google chrome supports desktop notifications. You can enable it if you wish to receive notifications from WhatsApp. Since the desktop version works through the connected mobile device, the phone has to be connected to internet for desktop version to work. If phone gets disconnected, the web version will show a message like this.

I also heard that the web version works properly only in Google Chrome. I have not tested in other browsers. Please let me know your views through comments section.
